Why hasn't the E24 M6 exploded in value?

The E30 M3 and E28 M5 have gone up in value like crazy the last few years. Why not the E24? M6?

The way I see it, it’s got the following going for it:

-Sexy Coupe

-Sexy, albeit pricy to maintain, engine

-Fairly limited production numbers in North America, although not compared to the E28 M5

-More choice of exterior and interior colours than the E28 M5

-Unlike the E28 M5 and E30 M3, these were the kind of cars that were bought by super rich people which means that fewer of the them ended up in the hands of kids who ruined them. Seems like they would generally be in better shape

Just a random musing. interested to hear your thoughts

There are only so many players in the NBA, and there are only so many hedge fund managers in the world.

For everyone else, it’s just too obnoxious.

Kinja'd!!!

This is obnoxious? He is talking about the E24, not the modern 6-Series

Gotcha...my bad. That WAS somewhat obnoxious, but is definitely less so than the current generation.

Great question. I love them.

Probably because it’s rare enough to not be able to develop a following, but not rare/cool enough to gain legendary status.

But hey, maybe you are on to something and now is the time to buy in.

They are, buy now! A low mileage M635 went for $75k at auction in Belgium recently.

Shhhhhhh. Don’t tell people that, Im hoping that they’ll still be reasonably priced in 10 years when I can realistically go out and get a classic.

They’ve shot up in value in the last year or two here.

Where do you live that they are not already expensive? I will come there and buy one forthwith. Normal e24s are cheap here, but special ones are through the roof. Pretty much mirrors the E28—a 528e can be had cheap, but anything interesting is expensive.

Ditto... they’re fairly pricy in Texas. Not even close to M5 or M3 money, but pricey. E9's have shot up so much over the past 1.5 years. It’s only a matter of time before ol sharky up top gets pricey everywhere.

I’d guess that added weight and the complicated engine don’t help.
